Are you a people person? Do you enjoy looking after others? If you really want to make a difference to people’s lives, then becoming a care worker could be the perfect career move for you!

A care worker’s role is to provide support to people in need of care. It’s a varied career and tasks may range from assisting a person with their daily tasks, such as cooking or cleaning, to accompanying them on day trips or holidays.

Care workers work with many types of people, from children to the elderly, and people with disabilities or learning difficulties.

Is care work for me?

You must have strong communication skills and be tactful and sensitive with your clients at all times. You need to be a people person, with a passion and patience for helping people. You should have an ability to build relationships with clients and their families, which means you should have a friendly and approachable personality with a good sense of humour.

Required qualifications

Health and social care is a popular industry and competition for jobs is high. Having a relevant and recognised professional health and social care qualification is important.

You will also need a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) test (formerly known as CRB).
